First generation Rolex Explorer II ref 16550 serial# 9.5 million circa 1986. Featuring 39.5mm diameter case with fixed 24 hour engraved bezel and sapphire crystal. Original black dial with nicely patina’d tritium luminous indexes and hands. Powered by self winding calibre 3155 movement with independently set hour hand for quick set changing of date or second time zone. Shown on distressed leather strap, but also includes original heavy Oyster bracelet with flip lock deployment clasp.
Note: The 16550 is the first generation sapphire crystal Explorer II, replacing the unpopular (at the time) 1655 so called orange hand Explorer II AKA Steve Mcqueen. Note the distinctive squared font of the correct 16550 bezel and dial signed SWISS T<25 denoting tritium as the luminous material. Very pleasing transitional vintage sports model.
