In the 1980's, Rolex offered some dramatic alternatives to the classic  metal champagne color dial in the form of natural burl wood dials, and natural stone dials. The stone dials included onyx, lapis, malachite, bloodstone, and tiger's eye. Predominantly these were offered as a luxury upgrade on men's Presidents and lady's President. Much less frequently, they were offered on the man's Datejust model, as in the current example.
